You Can Now Use Your Face As Your Boarding Pass As AirAsia Rolls Out New Facial Recognition System

AirAsia recently rolled out FACES (Fast Airport Clearance Experience System), a facial recognition system you could experience on your next flight. Fundamentally, your face will be your boarding pass, as it aims to provide a contactless experience at the airport.

FACES will be available from 1 November 2021 onwards at KLIA2 for selected flights, but it will be expanding to more airports in the region by next year. Apparently, FACES was first used in 2018 at the Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru.

The first generation of FACES required travellers to register their faces at a kiosk and AirAsia had to install an automated boarding gate system. Meanwhile, the newest version allows passengers to activate FACES on their phones using the AirAsia Super App by taking a selfie and taking a picture of their passport or IC.

That said, passengers will first be required to verify their documents at the service desk at the airport as a one-time process. What do you think of this facial recognition system by AirAsia?
