You Can Now Add Your Pronouns To Your Instagram Profile With This New Update
2021 is all about being comfortable in your own skin and expressing yourself freely, and Instagram seems to be all for that. The social media platform just added a dedicated space on users’ profiles to add in your pronouns. The bio space will allow up to 150 characters, so you can add however many pronouns that you want to be addressed by.
The text won’t be in the usual black font on the bio, rather it would be a faded text next to your profile name. Just like how I mentioned that you could express yourself freely, that section is completely optional, you don’t have to fill in the space if you don’t want to. Instagram’s new feature is a significant addition for gender diversity, allies, and those exploring their gender identity.

“We are giving people more tools to express themselves on Instagram,” a Facebook company spokesperson told Mashable. “Sharing pronouns has been widely adopted by our community, and with this feature we hope to normalize the adoption further.”
To access this feature, head on over to your profile and tap on the Edit Profile option. You can then tap on Pronouns and start typing whatever pronouns you fancy. Although, you can only select from the results that Instagram currently has on their pop up. This is so people can’t misuse the space by putting inappropriate words.
Currently, there are about 41 options to pick from, but the company will be adding more in the future. Don’t worry, Instagram actually consulted with various LGBTQ organisations when creating the list of pronouns and neopronouns.
