Wyatt Russell Receives Backlash As The New Captain America
If you’re a Marvel enthusiast then you’d probably already know that Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America is now replaced by John Walker, played by American actor, Wyatt Russell. Even if it does break my heart to see Chris Evans go, it was revealed in the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that the Captain America uniform and shield was passed over to a new character named John Walker.
Not surprisingly, Wyatt Russell is not receiving a lot of positive feedback from the fans, and he is actually accepting that fact. He mentioned in an interview with USA Today that “People are probably going to hate [my character being the new Captain America], and some people are going to love it. [Movies and TV shows] are there to make people feel emotions, and I’m hoping that that’s what this show can do for people. Hopefully they don’t hate me too much. But “it would be an honor, I guess, to be disliked in the Marvel universe.”
In the comics, Wyatt Russell seems to be a U.S. Agent that apparently started out as a villain and had a darker sense of patriotism than Steve Rogers. Wyatt Russell said that Walker faces a dilemma of trying to live up to Captain America’s legacy while still setting himself apart from Steve Rogers.
Many were hoping to see Sam Wilson, The Falcon take on the role as the new Captain America, but sadly did not turn out the way they wanted. This caused an outrage on social media, having fans use #NotMyCaptainAmerica to show their disappointment in John Walker and Marvel. I for one am very interested in seeing John Walker’s version of Captain America, showing him become an anti-hero or even a villain when the pressure of being Captain America gets to him.
What do you think about the new Captain America? Do you like or dislike this new change?
