WhatsApp’s Desktop App Finally Introduces Voice And Video Calls

WhatsApp finally joined the bandwagon to introduce voice and video calls on its desktop app. This is such an upgrade, as previously you can only use those features on the mobile app and it is a nuisance especially when your phone is not right by you.

Facebook-owned messaging service said: “Throughout the last year, we’ve seen significant increases in people calling one another on WhatsApp, often for long conversations. Last New Year’s Eve, we broke the record for the most calls ever made in a single day with 1.4 billion voice and video calls.”

“With so many people still apart from their loved ones, and adjusting to new ways of working, we want conversations on WhatsApp to feel as close to in-person as possible, regardless of where you are in the world or the tech you’re using.”

You can now use the feature on a much larger screen which is great for video calling your friends and family, unlike the tiny smartphone screen that doesn’t allow you to see much. WhatsApp also confirmed that the desktop app will work seamlessly for both portrait and landscape orientation, allowing you to also resize the window on your computer screen while it is set to stay on top of all your other open windows.

Unfortunately, the calls are still kept to a one-to-one basis as of now. WhatsApp claims that they will be expanding the feature to include group voice and video calls in the near future.

Go try it out by downloading the desktop app here.
