We Have Not Entered COVID-19 Fourth Wave… Yet

With the recent surge of COVID-19 cases nationwide, many of us are starting to think that we have just been plagued with the fourth wave which in all honestly, was somewhat expected given the way most Malaysians are behaving.

However, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba has recently announced that the situation can only be considered a fourth wave if cases involving domestic or local transmission record zero in the current third wave prior to surging the following day.

According to his statement, “In the last three weeks the number of cases we have recorded has yet to show a decline during the third wave of Covid-19. It has not yet entered the fourth wave. The fourth wave of Covid-19 can only occur if the third wave has reached the ‘baseline’ or zero and then the transmission starts again.”

Dr Adham also responded to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases claiming that it was due to activities in early April such as weddings and gatherings not to mention the breaching of SOP’s during the Ramadan bazaars.

In a bid to control the spread of the dastard virus, hefty fines has been imposed for any and all SOP breacher. Unfortunately that only does so much. Dr Adham also urges the public to work together to protect themselves and the community.

Well, I certainly hope that we see an end to this increase in cases soon. I shudder to think what would have happened if our government actually opened the borders for interstate travel.
