Viral Rundown Kancil Seized By Police While Homeless Owner Was Fined

If you’re on TikTok or Twitter lately, you probably would have noticed the videos showing a dilapidated Perodua Kancil driving around the Klang Valley. The yellow car was shown to be in hazardous condition, with damaged doors and a crushed roof. It left netizens puzzled as to how the Kancil was even functioning well enough to travel on the road.

The viral videos have since caught the attention of the authorities, who were on the lookout for the vehicle. When they finally managed to track it down at Kepong around 1am, the police were quick to seize the broken-down Kancil and fine the owner for not having a driving license and endangering other road users.

It was later revealed that the owner of the yellow Kancil is actually a homeless man from Raub, Pahang. The 47-year-old man is also the owner of another green Kancil with a broken window and invalid registered number plate.

According to KL Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Zulkefly Yahya, the yellow Kancil was found to have no road tax, no roof and its front right tyre is damaged. Both Kancil vehicles have been seized by the police.

Despite the obvious danger posed by the dilapidated vehicle, there were some netizens who questioned the police’s decision to fine a homeless man who clearly could not afford to pay his fine.

Saman? Lesen pun dia tak boleh buat, kereta pun nak roboh kau saman dia? Kau rasa dia mampu ke bayar saman? Kau saman orang tak waras? Siapa yang tak waras ni kat sini? — Shafiqe Black #RakyatJagaRakyat 🇲🇾 (@AkuShafiqeBlack) April 25, 2021

What do you think? Should the police have given the man another chance or offer to help him instead of issuing the compound?
