Victoria’s Secret Drops Angels, Hires Female Footballer Megan Rapinoe As “VS Collective&
Victoria’s Secret seemed to have bounce back from the dead since the cancellation of their fashion show in 2019. The lingerie company have recently announced a rebrand initiative called the “VS Collective”, which includes ditching their iconic Angels, for a more diverse group of empowered spokeswomen.
While Victoria’s Secret has long been associated with leggy supermodels in flirty lingerie and over the top wings costumes, the all-new VS Collective include various personalities like Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, US football star Megan Rapinoe, Chinese skier Eileen Gu and Los Angeles-based photographer Amanda de Cadenet.

The brand will still continue to feature models, but unlike the past where most of the models on the show were generally skinny, white models, the new lineup will feature women of different sizes and colours.
Among those include South Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech, British model and body activist Paloma Elsesser as well as Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio, who is also Victoria’s Secret’s first transgender model.

Victoria’s Secret’s latest revamp comes after the company was previously accused of enforcing sexist stereotypes and misogyny in its non-inclusive representation of women and sexiness. “We needed to stop being about what men want and to be about what women want,” said the brand’s CEO Martin Waters.
