Vans Releases Its First Vegan Shoe Collection Called Eco Theory

For the past few years now, brands are starting to be more conscious about their carbon footprint. This is the case for Vans, as the brand is working towards sustainable fashion by releasing a new vegan shoe collection called Eco Theory.

While they may be re-imagining materials used for their shoes, it doesn’t mean Vans’ iconic style will be compromised. Naturally, the collection will still bring back their best-selling Surf Classics silhouettes such as the Authentic, Slip-On, and Style 36 Decon SF, but with sustainable materials. The shoe collection will be constructed with materials like organic cotton, new Eco Vans natural rubber, jute laces, cork-lined footbed, and water-based inks and glues.

The Eco rubber that was mentioned to be used as the outsole is actually obtained from sources that follow ethical and sustainable practices, while still maintaining the shoes’ grip and durability. “Sustainability has to be at the forefront of Vans for the future. It’s a fantastic moment to own the space and contribute to a more sustainable way of producing,” said Vans professional surfer, Dane Gudauskas.
