This Global Coding School In KL Has Free Tuition, Zero Teachers, And Zero Classrooms
With the pandemic and MCO affecting everyone, it can be difficult for students to keep up with their studies, especially if one is already struggling financially among other things. But there’s a new treat in town for budding codding students, because Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has partnered with Sunway Education Group (SEG) to launch a new computer programming school, and it’s completely free!
First established in Paris and then, Silicon Valley, the 42KL coding school located at the FutureX building in Sunway City is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
As it is under the 42 coding school network, 42KL will follow the concept of peer-to-peer learning, with no formal classes or teachers, in a 100% hands-on project learning environment.
It’s stated that admission to the school is based on merit, so things like your grades, GPA or experience in the field do not matter. In fact, 50% of 42KL’s students actually come from the B40 income group and are between 18 and 49 years old, which proves that 42KL’s tuition-free initiative is benefitting the right group of people!
With such attractive benefits on the table, it makes sense that 42KL spots a pretty tough application process. Out of the 3,000 applicants in the first round, only the top 450 students who ace the online test will be selected to enter what 42KL called “The Pool” and undergo an on-site assessment for four weeks. Then, 150 students will enter the core curriculum stage for approximately 12 months, before they move on to the industry placement stage with one of 42KL’s partner companies for 3 to 6 months.
Since it was launched in July last year to January this year, a total of 3,600 people have signed up and after going through the application process, only 75 students have successfully enrolled as students in 42KL’s 12-month Core Programme.
