The Perfect Skincare Routine For Men

Have you ever wondered how most Korean guys appear to have flawless skin? Or perhaps you have spent hours up in bed wondering how on earth do their skin appear paler than the moonlight and yet as radiant as the sun?

Well wonder no more, as the answer has finally been unearthed. As it turns out, in order for most Korean men to look as good as they do, they go through a strict 10-step skincare routine. That said, try not to worry too much as the routine is actually quite easy to follow. Just make sure you follow through with the routine religiously.

If you are inclined to give this skincare a shot, here are the products you will need in accordance with the correct order that you will need to apply them.

Step 1: Oil Cleanser

Don’t get this confused with actually cleaning your face with oil please as that is by far the worst possible thing you can do. Oil cleansing refers to cleansers that can break down oil-based debris like pollution, sebum, and sunscreen. They usually offer nourishing and hydrating properties while at the same time eliminating dirt, debris, and bacteria from your skin.

In order to get the most of the oil cleanser, you will need to massage it into your skin every morning and night.

Step 2: Water Cleanser

Much like the oil cleanser which eliminates oil-based substances, the water cleanser naturally eliminates all water-based impurities. That said, you should still be on the lookout for more gentle cleansers that is capable of removing the impurities without dehydrating your skin completely.

To apply any water-based cleanser, you should gently apply it in gentle circular motions every morning and night.

Step 3: Exfoliator

Most men are rather familiar with exfoliators but at the same time, most of them aren’t aware that there are more than one type. For those of you with beards or with rough abrasive skin, you should look for exfoliators containing ingredients like walnut, rice, or salts – which are tougher on the skin. However, for those of you with more soft and unshaved skin, you should opt for the exfoliators containing AHA (alpha hydroxy acid). Exfoliating your skin also serve as a great way to allow other products to be absorbed into your skin more efficiently.

In order to get the most out of exfoliating, you should apply it twice a week but only on areas where you are having problems with.

Step 4: Essence

Essence is by far one of the most important aspect of any person’s skincare routine as it hydrates the deeper levels of the dermis thus preparing your skin for the following steps to come. It also hydrates and strengthens your skin.

Essence should be used in small amounts on your face an neck every morning and night

Step 5: Serums

Ah yes, we have now reached the peak of the skincare routine with the serums. Serums can be regarded as the concrete behind the foundation of a great skincare routine. They have the highest concentration of active ingredients, capable of catering everything you need from hydration to ageing. Serums will also directly treat any problems you have with your skin.

In order to ensure that your serum is perfect for you, you have to first identify what are the underlying problems in your skin. Once you have done so, simply use a small amount and pat it on your face and neck along with the affected areas.

Step 6: Sheet Masks

Fun fact, Korea is actually the birthplace of the sheet mask. The tradition goes back centuries where back then, Koreans would use paper rather than carefully formulated tissues, hydrogel, and bio-cellulose bodies but the concept behind the use of such masks remained the same. Sheet masks serve as a barrier which pushes humectants (ingredients that help bind water to the skin) and other elements into the face.

You only need to apply a sheet mask twice a week. Prior to wearing it however, do ensure that your skin is clear and once applied, let it rest on your face for 20 minutes.

Step 7: Eye Creams

The concept of using eye creams are fairly easy to understand. They deliver skin-strengthening proteins which helps to combat dark circles while also illuminating the areas surrounding your eyes.

In order to use it effectively, simply use your ring finger and tap the eye cream around the entire orbital bone every night before you sleep.

Step 8: Emulsion

Emulsion is a lesser known step that is not usually used in most people’s skin care routine but you definitely should if you want that K-pop glow. Emulsions are basically lightweight moisturizers that are more effective for male skin. Much like moisturizers, emulsions adds humectants, vitamins, and actives to your skin. So why bother getting a moisturizer AND an emulsion? Well emulsions are capable of getting deeper into the levels of the skin due to a smaller molecular structure.

Make sure to use it in the morning and at night.

Step 9: Moisturizer

Think of moisturizers as the ultimate barrier that seals and locks up all 9 steps before. Moisturizers maintains the levels of hydration in the skin by sealing in water in the dermis. The primary use for moisturizers however, are to combat your dry, dehydrated, and ageing complexions.

It is advisable to apply it every morning and night onto your face and neck.

Step 10: SPF

To round things up, SPF is basically the ultimate prevention for all skin damage. Skipping this step after completing all 9 steps would make your skincare routine completely redundant. The general understanding is that the sun is the root cause of all skin damage. So in order to prevent your skin from such heinous damage such as pigmentation and dehydration, applying SPF is absolutely necessary.

It is extremely advisable to constantly apply and reapply throughout the day and night all over your face, neck, shoulders, and ears.
