Sunway Student Volunteers Organise Shoebox Christmas For Underprivileged Families

Christmas is right around the corner, and you know what that means? It’s gifting season! Sunway Student Volunteers (SSV), run by Sunway University students decided to bring back Shoebox Christmas, an initiative introduced back in 2015 to spread happiness and give back to the community such as contributing gifts and daily necessities to underprivileged families. The beneficiaries come from different backgrounds, including orang asli, B40 families living in PPRs, and orphanage children.

With great passion for the underprivileged, the SSV committees collected old shoeboxes and raised funds to purchase gifts. Shoeboxes that are usually discarded will be collected and reused instead of new gift boxes to promote sustainability. While the Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly affected all of us, especially the underprivileged, the committees of Sunway Student Volunteers came together to organise Shoebox Christmas and aim to raise Rm14,000 to curate gift boxes and groceries for underprivileged families.

This year, the beneficiaries will include Stepping Stones Living Centre, Sanggar Suri, Persatuan Membantu Orang Kelainan Upaya Malaysia, Myammar Muslim Refugees Community, and many more, benefiting about 700 children and 100 families. The Sunway Student Volunteers are delighted to have more people on board to share the joy of Christmas with those who need them most. Let’s extend our care to the underprivileged during this season of giving and sharing!
