Study Shows Vaping Could Increase Risk Of Developing Asthma

Most people who smoke electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) tend to think that it is a safer alternative than smoking actual cigarettes. But this may not be entirely true as a recent study has shown that teenagers and young adults who smoke e-cigarettes face a higher risk of developing asthma.

A group of researchers from the American Thoracic Society referred to data from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) that were conducted between 2015 and 2016.

The study looked at 17,190 individuals who were aged 12 years or older, out of which only 3.1% of participants have reported using an e-cigarette in the past 30 days.

It was found that for those who vaped, there was a 9% increased risk of suffering from asthma. As for current and former smokers, they face 20% and 33% increased risks of developing asthma respectively.

Meanwhile, individuals who did not smoke or vape were not found to have any significant links with increased risk of asthma attacks. So at the end of the day, be it vape or cigarettes, the safest choice is still not to smoke, if you can.
