SPM Student Filmed Throwing His Books Into a River
Finishing your SPM examinations can be a joyous and momentous occasion. You’re filled with the thrill of being liberated from your high school ‘burdens’ and you are keen on taking on the world. However, that does not give you the right to defile our environment for the sake of entertainment. One student did not get the memo unfortunately.
On 6 March 2021, a video was circulated around Facebook showing an SPM student literally flinging his books into a river to the dismay of many. Netizens then wasted no time in bashing the student online saying that he is uneducated and that he is wasting his parents money. Some added saying that the student is polluting the river for the sake of getting some likes on his video.

In response to the incident, the Ministry of Environment and Water posted on their Facebook asking netizens for any information regarding the student. Now one would think that they would serve up a befitting punishment for this little delinquent but to the surprise of many netizens, the Ministry of Environment and Water merely wanted to educate the SPM student.
According to their post, the Ministry intends to recruit the student as a member of the Friends of River Malaysia programme which aims to clean up all rivers across the country which seems almost fitting considering that World Water Day is coming up this 22 March 2021.
Netizens were quick to praise the actions of the Ministry and suggested that this new approach should be implemented against other litterbugs in Malaysia as well.
