Someone Finally Figured Out How And Why This Instagram Story Crashes Your Phone
You may or may not have seen videos of social media users attempting to open an Instagram story highlights by user @pgtalal, only for their phone to freeze on a blank screen with an Arabic sentence.
Я сказала «не надо!» , а муж сказал «не ссы!» 😂 #pgtalal
After that, users would have no choice but to restart their phone because that’s the only way you can get it to work again, though no one really understands why, until now…
Thanks to YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss and his team of “Tech Avengers”, we now know the reason behind this glitch and don’t worry, it’s not a virus or anything you should worry about.
Turns out, the backstory is actually pretty interesting considering the mastermind behind this Instagram bug is only 14 years old! So how did this tech genius managed to crash millions of phones?
Basically, the simplest way to explain it is that the Instagram story that we are seeing, or rather the one that is shown to us, is only the tip of the iceberg in the full picture. What Pgtalal did was by simply adding a countdown and quiz sticker to his Instagram story, except he managed to scale the size of the stickers so big, Instagram and your phone can’t help but crash when it tries to open the story.
For instance, a normal sticker size on an Instagram story would be between 0 to 1 but upon inspecting Pgtalal’s story, the scale of the stickers can fetch up to 18 digits. In other words, the sticker on Pgtalal’s story is big enough to fill not just hundreds or thousands of phones, but rather quadrillions or possibly quintillions of phones.
This explains why for Android users, they might only see a purple image with confetti falling on their screen, because that’s just one tiny aspect in the actual Instagram countrdown sticker. But for iPhone users who click on the story, they will be seeing a different part of the actual story that is focused on the quiz sticker instead.

So how did Pgtalal manage to expand the story so big? According to Mrwhosetheboss, Pgtatal was able to upload the story to Instagram using a HTTP proxy server, that basically intercepts the story and allows Pgtalal to rescale the size before finally posting it.
Which brings us to the next point, why is Pgtalal doing this? As mentioned before, he is simply a 14-year-old programmer. And like all teenage boys, Pgtalal just decided to spend his time during quarantine to create Instagram glitches for fun.
But believe it or not, Pgtalal’s experimentation actually works in Instagram’s favour as the discovery of this bug essentially helps the platform to improve their system and prevent problems like this from happening in the future.
