Real-life SpongeBob SquarePants And Patrick Star Spotted Together Under The Sea

Everyone’s favourite absorbent, yellow and porous friend who lives in a pineapple under the sea has just been found (drum roll) under the sea, without his iconic square pants, but with the company of his starfish best friend.

A recent photo showing a yellow sea sponge and a pink starfish underwater has gone viral on social media due to its uncanny resemblance to popular cartoon characters SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star.

The picture, which was shared in a tweet by marine biologist Christopher Mah on 28 July, was taken 1,885m deep in the Atlantic Ocean, using a remotely-operated vehicle that’s used to map and understand marine life underwater. — M (@mwhdeere) July 30, 2021

It turns out, SpongeBob is part of an actual group of sponge sea creatures that bear a similar absorbent and porous appearance to a real sponge, except they’re not usually as yellow and bright as the one that was spotted by Mah.

And believe it or not, sponges are part of the starfish’s diet, which explains why the pink starfish was probably spotted hanging out next to the sea sponge, preparing itself for its next meal. Who would’ve thought that in real-life, SpongeBob could really just be Patrick’s dinner instead of his best friend – RIP.
