Pregnant And Nursing Mothers Should Only Opt For Pfizer Vaccine, Says Khairy

According to coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin, only the Pfizer vaccine is recommended for expectant and breastfeeding mothers who are planning to get vaccinated.

“Based on advice from the Health Ministry, Pfizer is suitable to be used by expectant mothers who are between 14 and 33 weeks into their pregnancy. For lactating mothers, it is suitable for them to be given Pfizer, too,” said Khairy during a virtual press conference yesterday.

For now, the clinical guidelines do not recommend for pregnant women to take the Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines. As for nursing women, the data remains limited so recommendation will only be made after consultation. Those who still have doubts are advised to consult their respective doctors.

On the other hand, Khairy also assured that the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force will be coordinating with hospitals and specialists to ensure that women who are between 14 and 33 weeks pregnant can be prioritised for the Pfizer vaccine.
