Overhead Bridge Collapse Claimed the Lives of 2 Women
An overhead bridge structure collapsed yesterday at Desa Tun Razak resulting in the deaths of 2 women with 3 others being seriously injured. The women were pronounced dead at the scene while the inured victims were taken to Tuanku Mmuhriz Hospital for treatment.
Department head ACP Zulkefly Yahya stated that the van the victims were travelling in was crushed by the falling structure as they were passing through the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).
According to the police, they had received a report earlier from a trailer driver claiming that he hit the iron scaffolding of the Sungai Besi Ulu Kelang Expressway (SUKE). The 40-year old trailer driver was then detained by the police for further investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Upon investigation however, police discovered that the trailer driver was under the influence of drugs and will be remanded under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act by the Dang Wangi Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director, Nordin Pauzi told the press that the fire department took over 3 hours to extricate the victims. He also said that firefighters had to be extra cautious in fear of a second collapse.
The collapse also caused a two-kilometre long traffic jam to the dismay of many commuters along the MRR2.
