According to Bukit Aman's director Datuk Hazani Ghazali, there will be no New Year's Eve celebration nationwide. He said that this was to avoid the risk of Covid-19 outbreak within the country.

“Therefore, I have instructed standard operating procedures (SOP) monitoring teams throughout the country to conduct patrols and monitoring in popular spots to ensure that no people gather and carry out activities that violate the SOPs of the National Recovery Plan. I remind the public not to get involved in any new year’s celebration activities, or gather in large numbers on the eve of the new year tomorrow at any popular spots,” he said.

Besides that, Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Noor Dellhan Yahaya said that there will be no fireworks display at KLCC and Pavilion to celebrate the New Year. Police in George Town were requested to monitor popular spots and roads across the state ahead of the New Year as well.

North East district police chief ACP Soffian Santong mentioned that 146 police officers and 821 policemen will carry out the operation throughout Penang. “This is because beginning tomorrow, Penang is likely to have up to a 40 per cent increase in traffic flow due to school and year-end holidays,” he said.

While we are ushering in the New Year with open arms, let's not forget to stay safe during the countdown and celebration. New Society would like to wish everybody a Happy New Year!
