Nicki Minaj’s Father Killed In Hit-and-Run Accident
Rapper Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj was killed by a hit-and-run driver in New York, said Nassau County Police.
According to the police statement, the 64-year-old was walking along a road in Mineola, Long Island at 6.15pm on 11 February when he was hit by a car that kept going. Maraj was then taken to the hospital but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead the next day.
Although the police statement did not reveal Maraj as Minaj’s father, a police spokesman has confirmed to AFP about Maraj’s identity and relation to the rapper. The 38-year-old rapper was born Onika Tanya Maraj in Trinidad and Tobago, and raised in Queens, New York City. She has not made any public statement about the incident involving her father’s death.
This news comes after Minaj was recently ordered to pay singer Tracy Chapman $450,000 (RM 1,815,000) to settle a copyright case after Minaj was sued for using portions of Chapman’s song “Baby Can I Hold You Tonight” in her song “Sorry”.
