New Animated LOTR Movie Announced To Be Set 250 Years Before Trilogy
I don’t know about you, but I have been waiting for more LOTR movies to be released, which is why I’m so excited that they have announced a new animated Lord of the Rings movie that will be set 250 years before the main trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was the last of the Middle-earth saga, which was released in 2014. We’ve waited 7 years to finally receive news that a new movie is in development!
However, Amazon Studios is also said to be releasing a high-budget Lord of the Rings series which will be set within Middle-earth’s Second age. So far there has been discussions on 5 seasons for this series, but only 2 seasons are officially ordered by Amazon.
Back to the new movie that will be developed by New Line Cinema, it is titled “The War of the Rohirrim” which is an animated prequel. That said, Warner Bros. Animation will also be working on the project alongside Lord of the Rings’ Philippa Boynes who was involved in the series’ writing team. The animated movie will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama, while the screenplay is being written by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthew.
“All of us at New Line feel a deep affinity for the extraordinary world J.R.R. Tolkien created, so the opportunity to dive back into Middle-earth with the team at Warner Bros. Animation is a dream come true. Fans know Helm’s Deep as the stage for one of the greatest battles ever put to film and, with many of the same creative visionaries involved and the brilliant Kenji Kamiyama at the helm, we couldn’t be more excited to deliver a fresh vision of its history that will invite global audiences to experience the rich, complex saga of Middle-earth in a thrilling new way,” said Carolyn Blackwood, Warner Bros.’ Chief Operating Officer, and Richard Brener, President and Chief Creative Officer of New Line Cinema.
The movie will explore and expand the untold story of Helm’s Deep, the iconic fortress seen in The Two Towers while delving into the life of legendary Middle-earth hero Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan. The project is still in early development stages, so the animation work and voice castings are still underway.
