Netizens Sad To See Businesses At Melaka’s Jonker Street Shut Down For Good

Since the pandemic happened, we have had our fair shares of heartbreak as we see some of our favourite cafes and restaurants shut down. But this isn’t just affecting businesses in the Klang Valley. Even along Jonker Street, Melaka, several stores were also spotted putting up “For Sale” signs.

The area which was once a popular tourist destination is now void of its usual crowd. Instead, what you might see are empty shop lots with closed doors and notices of business closures. Among the local stores, many were once popular restaurants or souvenir shops that used to host large crowds of customers every weekend.

While Facebook group Malaysia Business For Sale had posted some photos to inform interested buyers about the available business opportunities at Jonker Street, many netizens can’t help but feel sad upon seeing photos of their favourite stores being put up for sale.

The tourism industry is undoubtedly one of the most badly affected sectors during this pandemic. And with Jonker Street being a tourist attraction, we can’t help but feel sorry for the business owners who have tried to hold on for so long despite the obvious lack of customers. One can only hope that this pandemic would come to an end soon and these businesses would be able to find a way to get back on track.
