Netflix May Soon Be Regulating Password Sharing With A New Feature
Heads up Netflix users! You may soon have to create your own Netflix account if you are currently sharing with your friend or family member. The streaming giant decided to finally take action to test out a new feature that is designed to crack down on password sharing. The purge has arrived!
Unfortunately, a couple of Netflix users have been receiving a message when streaming on the platform. “If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.”
O no. Netflix doing the purge?!? pic.twitter.com/XXlHtfgfsy — chante most (@DOP3Sweet) March 9, 2021
So how this works is, Netflix will attempt to have users using the same account but don’t live together sign up for a new account. “This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so.” It is understandable, as a lot of Netflix accounts have been hacked in the past, and it happens very often.
We are still clueless as to when the feature goes beyond the test phase. It appears that only those watching Netflix on the TV are affected, but mobile devices are safe for the time being.
