Msian Men’s Doubles, Aaron Chia And Soh Wooi Yik Takes Out World Number 1 Pair In Quarter Fina
This morning (29/7), our national badminton duo, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik took the win against World No. 1 pair and the competition favourites, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya from Indonesia during the quarter finals match. Malaysians are extremely proud as the Malaysian athletes only took 33 minutes to beat their opponents, winning the first set 21 – 14 and the second set 21 – 17.
The World No. 9 pair booked their first ever semi-finals match at an Olympic games, fighting relentlessly on the court to do us proud. Meanwhile, our No. 1 singles badminton player, Lee Zii Jia booked his spot in the men’s singles elimination rounds after his win over French plater, Brice Leverdez yesterday.
He dominated Leverdez with 2 consecutive sets, winning 21 – 17 and 21 – 5 respectively. That said, Lee Zii Jia will be playing against defending champion from China, Chen Long this evening at 6.15pm, so do tune in to cheer for our Malaysian Olympian!
