Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin revealed on 21 November that a heightened alert system will soon be introduced by the Ministry of Health (MOH), to detect early signs of rising Covid-19 cases in Malaysia. This will then help tighten some sectors should there be an increase in cases.

But rest assured, there will not be any total lockdown. “We want to avoid lockdowns, if possible. It doesn’t just disrupt the economy, but also mental health and family well being,” Khairy said. At the same time, the health minister also mentioned that the public should not take SOP compliances for granted, especially when the country has transitioned into Phase 4 of the National Recovery Program (NRP).

This is because the MOH are starting to see early signs of an increase in Covid-19 cases, admissions into the hospitals mostly involved categories 4 and 5, which is very alarming. That said, Khairy urged the public to get their booster shots as soon as possible while he will provide updates on the heightened alert system within a week or two.
