Melaka Set To Receive RM1bil To Develop Malaysia's First Electric Car Assembly Plant


Melaka may soon be the first in the country to develop an electric car assembly plant, with the help of an investment totaling RM1 billion by Fieldman EV Sdn Bhd. The assembly plant was said to constructed at the Elkay Lipat Kajang Industrial Area in Jasin.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said that the company obtained exclusive rights to distribute EVs in the country and the Southeast Asia regional market for right-hand drive vehicles from China's Changan Automobile Corp.

“Fieldman EV intends to launch EVs and is interested to build an assembly plant in Melaka, together with local companies by utilising Changan’s technology. The state government welcomes this cooperation which will provide long-term benefits by further strengthening the development of the automotive industry in Melaka,” he said.

Sulaiman added that the factory will provide 5,000 new job opportunities while also enabling the transfer of EV technology which is expected to boost Melaka's economy.
