MAS To Launch Digital Travel Health Pass

Malaysia Airlines is now working with relevant authorities in an attempt to introduce a Digital Travel Health Pass that is designed for safer air travel when the current Covid-19 pandemic has settled down a little.

The health pass will attempt to integrate modules from the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Travel Pass which allows passengers to create a digital passport on the Malaysia Airlines Mobile App. In a statement, released by Malaysia Airlines, they said that the implementation of the digital identification system will be the first step in creating further contactless travel options.

Malaysia Aviation Group chief executive officer Izham Ismail added, the pass will instill confidence in passengers and provide them with a much more seamless way of travelling.

It appears that the health pass will also be capable of verifying if the carrier’s Covid-19 test or vaccination requirements are met and if they are cleared for travel. After passengers make appointments with certified medical partners to carry out a COVID-19 RT-PCR test or after they include their COVID-19 vaccination certificate on their mobile phones, the health pass will share an “OK to Travel” status to relevant authorities provided of course, they are actually cleared for travel.

Although the health pass is currently being worked on, it may still be inadvisable to travel considering the current state of things and from the looks of the rising cases, it does seem that it will be a while before we actually do get to travel again. So it seems that we still won’t be able to satisfy our wanderlust just yet.
