Malaysian Pianist Jolynn Chin Has Made It On ‘America’s Got Talent’
Hailing from Kuching, Malaysia, 25-year-old Jolynn J. Chin is making our country proud all the way in the United States after she successfully made it on the popular reality talent show America’s Got Talent (AGT).
As a classically-trained pianist, Chin has been learning music since she was five. She was even mentored by music educationist Dr Nicholas Ong from the prestigious Juilliard School in New York.
Unlike regular contestants who would sign up for the show, Chin was actually discovered by the casting producer of AGT after he saw some of her videos on YouTube. A few weeks after meeting with the executive producers, Chin received the good news that she would be flown out to Los Angeles, where she would appear on the talent show.
In order to ensure that she would have a good audition performance, Chin spent months practicing and preparing with AGT’s team of musicians. And thankfully, her hard work paid off.
Speaking about her debut on AGT, Chin describes it the experience as a dream come true, “I watched AGT a lot when I was young and always thought it would be cool to be on that show. I never expected their producer to reach out to me 20 years later, and I am most grateful to all of them.”
Unsurprisingly, appearing on AGT isn’t even Chin’s first major accomplishment. The classical pianist has already worked with many renowned musicians and won several prizes in international competitions. In fact, she even has her own album, Beyond Classical, which was considered for the 62nd Grammy Awards under the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category!
