Malaysian Health Ministry Approves ‘Deep Throat Saliva’ Swab Test

There are so many people that are intimidated by the current Covid-19 swab test, which is through the nose and into the nasal passage or the back of your throat. It can get pretty uncomfortable and painful to some, which is why this new swab test method is introduced and approved by the Health Ministry.

According to the Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, many countries have already been using this ‘deep throat saliva’ method for testing and it is apparently less invasive, faster, cheaper, and more consistent. How does this ‘deep throat saliva’ method work? A person will need to spit out a saliva sample into a specimen cup, just like how you clear your throat from phlegm.

This sampling method will soon begin at hospitals before extending its usages to other health facilities. Health Minister added that the Institute for Medical Research completed a study on saliva sampling and concluded that it was more suitable for the ministry’s reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests.

On a side note, does anyone else think the Health Ministry should change the name of the new sampling method?
