Malaysia Isn’t Barred From The Olympics, Says Tokyo 2020 CEO

It was previously reported that Malaysia was among one of the 10 countries that may be barred from the Olympics next month due to a recent surge in Covid-19 cases. Among these countries include India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and the United Kingdom.

But Malaysians can relax now knowing that our country isn’t about to be barred from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after its Organising Committee CEO Toshiro Muto denied these claims.

In fact, Muto explained that the possibility of denying entry to the participating countries was not even considered, “We have never heard of that, it is completely groundless, we cannot consider it as a possibility.”

However, athletes will need to consult with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and be fully vaccinated before they enter Japan due to concerns surrounding the new Covid-19 variants.

With only 44 days left until the Olympics on 23 July, Muto also denied rumours about cancelling or delaying the Olympic and Paralympic Games as they have already been postponed for a year due to the pandemic.
