Malay Rulers Will Be Meeting This Friday To Discuss The Next Malaysian Prime Minister
Updated: Dec 9, 2021
This morning (18/8), the Yang di-Pertuan Agong announced that there will be a meeting with other Malay Rulers in the country this Friday, to discuss the nominations for the next Malaysian prime minister. Malaysian citizens have been speculating all over social media on who will be selected as the new prime minister, but there has been no clear winner in the online votes.
The Star reported that the meeting is scheduled to begin at 2.30pm at the Istana Negara on 20 August. Sources mentioned that the meeting is important as the King wants the appointment of the next prime minister to be conducted properly instead of previous incidents when several lawmakers were alleged to have hedged their bets on their choice of PM.
“The result is that the public no longer has trust in these documents. So the palace wants to get this done properly,” one source said. Apparently, Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun instructed MPs to submit their individual choice for the ninth PM by 4pm today (18/8). As of yesterday, the BN coalition decided to back UMNO vice-president, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob while the Opposition has named Pakatan Harapan chief, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Parti Warisan Sabah president, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Who do you think will take over as the ninth PM of Malaysia?
