Local Cosmetics Millionaire Dato’ Seri Vida Says People Who Raise #BenderaPutih Are ‘Laz

It’s funny how some people can be so rich with money, yet so poor of kindness and empathy, which costs nothing. Local cosmetics entrepreneur Dato’ Seri Vida recently posted a TikTok clip to urge Malaysians to work hard instead of being “lazy” and expect to get help by putting up a white flag.

Vida, whose real name is Hasmiza Othman, was replying to a comment from a TikTok user who asked if she could help out as many people have been financially affected by the recent lockdowns. But instead of responding positively or actually offering help, Vida told her viewers to stop using the lockdown as an excuse to say you’re unable to work.

In the video, Vida was seen buying food from a street vendor when she asked him how long he has been selling food, to which he said a year. The businesswoman proceeded to use the seller as an example, saying that he’s able to make RM200 to RM250 a day, which is proof that with hard work and a good menu with delicious and clean food, anything is possible.

Vida ended her video by telling viewers to “Work hard, don’t be lazy and expect help by putting up a white flag.” Needless to say, netizens did not appreciate Vida’s comments at all, especially since she’s a multimillionaire who could easily help others but instead chose to be insensitive to the people’s struggles during these difficult times.

A user also commented on Vida’s TikTok, saying “It’s okay if you don’t wish to help, but please don’t mock others”, to which Vida responded with another TikTok video clarifying that she had no intention to mock the people in the #BenderaPutih movement.

“Even if you raise the white flag, until when do you plan to keep doing this and how long do you expect people to help you? In the end, you still have to work hard to change your own fate because only you can do that,” said Vida.

Although some people agreed with Vida’s idea that people should work hard to make their own living, many users also explained that the pandemic has made it impossible for people to put food on the table, let alone come up with extra money to start a business.
