KL’s Iconic Coliseum Café Famous For Hainanese-Western Cuisine Since 1921 Closes Down
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic that we’ve been hit since 2020, another one of our local gems are closing down. Since 1921, the Coliseum Café in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman has been famous for its Hainanese-Western cuisine, I remember going there as a kid myself so it’s really sad to see this iconic place close down permanently.
According to a report by The Malaysian Insider, owners of the café decided to permanently close after the tenancy of the café in a pre-war building next to the Coliseum Café expired. Sadly, Coliseum Café was suppose to be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
“We are saddened that we couldn’t celebrate our 100th anniversary. We hadn’t been able to sustain since the first movement control order (MCO). We relied on dine-ins and the regulars who used to visit the café couldn’t come because the city was in lockdown,” said the restaurant franchise’s marketing manager Azrain Azman.
But don’t fret, other outlets of the iconic restaurant will remain open.
