Khairy: NGOs To Be Roped In To Help Vaccinate Refugees And Migrants

In order to encourage more refugees and migrants in Malaysia to get vaccinated, National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has announced that non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will be included in the vaccination exercise for these communities.

“Illegal immigrants and refugees would be more comfortable if the vaccination centre is handled by an NGO which has provided them health services. In this way, they will not be afraid to go for vaccination,” said the minister in an interview with the media.

Considering migrants and refugees are one of the groups that are most at risk right now, it is especially important for them to get vaccinated to protect themselves and the people around them from the threat of deadly virus. “No one is safe until everyone is safe,” said Khairy.

Khairy also added that the guidelines for illegal immigrants and refugees to be vaccinated had been approved by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force to encourage more people to come forward and get vaccinated. However, the full details for these guidelines would only be revealed later.
