‘Joker’ Malware Infects Half a Million Huawei Devices and Yours Could be One of Them

If you aren’t familiar with the ‘Joker’ malware, it is basically a virus that first made waves on the Google Play Store that steals social media credentials. However, considering the fact that Huawei has ditched any and all Google services, you might be thinking that you are in the clear.

Unfortunately, newer variants of the ‘Joker’ virus has also been found lurking in the official Android app store and has since made its way into the new Huawei AppGallery. In a report released by Bleeping Computer, over 500,000 Huawei users have downloaded Joker-infected apps from the AppGallery.

Much like the Joker from the Batman comics, this ‘Joker’ virus is nothing to be trifled with as it automatically uses your device to subscribe to premium mobile services without your knowledge. Here are some of the apps that you need to be wary of:

  1. Super Keyboard

  2. Happy Colour

  3. Fun Color

  4. New 2021 Keyboard

  5. Camera MX – Photo Video Camera

  6. BeautyPlus Cmaera

  7. Color RollingIcon

  8. Funney Meme Emoji

  9. Happy Tapping

  10. All-in-One Messenger

Although these apps have already been removed by Huawei, if you have already installed them prior to their removal, you might want to consider manually going through your device to delete them along with any associated installation packages and system files.

Either way, you should always be on the lookout for any suspicious occurrences in your devices. If your phone is behaving abnormally, such as randomly opening apps or you get weird SMS’s from some unknown company saying that “your subscription has been renewed” do put an end to it ASAP.
