Johnson & Johnson Might Be Added To Malaysia’s Covid-19 Vaccine Supplier Lineup

According to the Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Malaysia is looking to add Johnson & Johnson to the lineup of Covid-19 vaccine suppliers to boost the country’s National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme. It was recommended by the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee and approved by the Cabinet. He also added that this effort is still in discussion stages with the US multinational to finalize the procurement of its vaccine.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine has apparently received positive clinical information for its single-dose vaccine so far, which is one of the reasons for this decision. Malaysia has agreed to receive Covid-19 vaccines from 5 companies to date: Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, CanSinoBIO, and Sputnik V. However, Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine is the only one that received NPRA approval, while the rest are still under evaluation.

On top of that, Malaysia also made a deal with Pfizer and BionNTech to receive upgraded versions of their vaccine when available.
