Italian Man Skipped Work For 15 Years Straight And Still Received RM2.7m In Salary
People are really putting their best minds to find ways to cheat the system at work, and I’m so jealous! Following the news about a Taiwanese man who managed to get 32 days of paid leave from work, another man in Italy was accused of skipping work for 15 years, which is said to have broken the national record.
The man, who works as a hospital worker at Ciaccio hospital in the southern city of Catanzaro in the Calabria region, apparently started to not show up for work since 2005. Despite his years of absenteeism, the man was never fired from work and instead has been receiving his salary as usual, which totals to €538,000 (RM2.7 million)!
But the man’s 15-year run away from work has finally come to an end as he is currently being investigated for fraud, extortion, and abuse of office. At the same time, six managers at the hospital are also under investigation for enabling the man’s behaviour.
According to the police, the man was a civil servant who was assigned to work at the hospital. It’s said that the man initially threatened his manager against reporting him and after the manager had retired, no one else in the office seemed to notice the man’s absence from work.
This case is only a small part of the police’s investigation into workplace absenteeism and suspected fraud in the Italian public sector. There are already 35 workers at Sanremo’s town hall who have since been caught for spending at least two years cheating the time management system.
To make matters worse, there’s even a traffic policeman who was filmed clocking in at work in his underwear before going back to bed.
