One of the most-visited tourism destination, Ipoh may soon be getting their first inner-city Light Rail Transit (LRT) system that is said to span 58 kilometres with 28 stations included. The LRT system will be divided into 2 routes, west and east Ipoh that aims to ease traffic congestion in the area.

“As a start, a transport hub around Ipoh Railway Station will be developed in anticipation (of the LRT), which will involve roughly 60 hectares of land. We want to create a sort-of ‘Ipoh Central’, which will be both modern and efficient.” said Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi, the state chairperson on Housing, Tourism, and Local Government.

Supported by a network of buses, trams, and taxi services, the Ipoh Railways Station will serve as the heart of the LRT system. Authorities mentioned that they also have plans to develop the Greater Ipoh region as a 21st century tourist attraction which will follow an initiative called the Ipoh City Local Plan 2035.

However, don't expect the LRT project to be done anytime soon, as the project is still undergoing review with the cost and construction period yet to be decided.
