Indonesian Radios Banned From Playing Songs By Bruno Mars And More Before 10pm

If you happen to be visiting Indonesia and you’re hoping to catch a Bruno Mars tune on the radio, you’re probably going to be disappointed by the lack of ’24K Magic’ on air because this, along with 41 other songs have been banned from playing on Indonesian radio stations before 10pm due to “their immoral lyrics”.

According to Adiyana Slamet, the head of the West Java Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), the 42 songs were banned for containing words of violence, obscenity, and sexual innuendos. Under the country’s Law No. 32 of the Broadcasting Code of Conduct and Standards of Broadcast Programs (P3SPS), radio broadcasting must ensure national integrity by protecting the character and identity of a nation that is faithful and pious.

Among the list of songs that are banned include ‘Versace on the Floor’, ‘That’s What I Like’ and ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ by Bruno Mars, Cardi B’s ‘Up’, Ariana Grande’s ‘Positions’ and ’34+35′ as well as ‘Blueberry Eyes’ by Max and Suga of BTS. Even ‘Good Life’ by One Republic is banned from the radio! Now what’s so bad about the good life huh?

That’s not all, even after 10pm when these songs are allowed to be played, radio stations are asked to censor the song lyrics that are not in accordance with Indonesian norms before they’re allowed on air. But hey, at least Spotify is still available.
