With the government announcing its plans to treat Covid-19 as endemic in Malaysia, it’s time for us to accept that one way or another, we need to learn how to live with this virus in our community, and one way to do so is by getting vaccinated to prevent the spread of the virus. But what about those who are unvaccinated due to medical concerns, or even anti-vaxxers?

According to Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the government may draft specific policies and guidelines for unvaccinated individuals to ensure their safety, and one of these measures include mandatory Covid-19 testing.

“When things are endemic, whether you are vaccinated or not, you need to get tested regularly. So for those who refuse to get the vaccine, we will have a testing schedule perhaps, which will have to be either the rapid or RT-PCR test. But we will come up with a policy to take into account those who refuse the vaccination,” said Khairy.

Individuals who are unable to get vaccinated due to medical reasons should have a doctor’s letter to explain their situation. However, those who have no medical concerns to reject a vaccination should be responsible and register to get vaccinated.

Khairy added that although getting vaccinated is not yet a federal requirement, the government may consider doing so. But one thing for sure is that as Covid-19 becomes endemic in Malaysia, no one is going to be seen without wearing a face mask in public.
