In-Flight WiFi Will Soon Be Provided By SpaceX’s Starlink

Back when we were able to travel by plane to anywhere in the world, WiFi was one of the things we always wanted during the flight but the connectivity was always either really bad or too expensive. Well, SpaceX is said to be working on making a satellite internet network, Starlink a provider of fast in-flight internet connectivity.

SpaceX’s VP of Starlink and commercial sales, Jonathan Hofeller said that the company is already in talks with a couple of airlines. “We have our own aviation product in development…we’ve already done some demonstrations to date, and looking to get that product finalized to be put on aircraft in the very near future,” he said.

We currently don’t know when this will be launching, but Hollefer did mention that Starlink will be able to provide a “great experience” which geostationary systems cannot do. To provide WiFi connectivity in-flight, Starlink’s satellites will have to be able to connect to each other via laser links.
