Important Question: Does Drinking Coffee Help You Lose Weight?
A new study was conducted by a couple of Spanish researchers to specify the effects of coffee and losing weight. And to our astonishment, yes, it does help! Drinking a strong coffee 30 minutes before exercising is proven to be able to increase the burning of fats.
All you coffee lovers must be squealing in excitement, however, the downside of this is that the exercises has to be done in the afternoon. Scientists from the Department of Physiology at the University of Granada in Spain followed 15 men aged an average of 32 years, who participated in an exercise test on 4 occasions at intervals of a week. Some of the participants ingested the equivalent of a strong coffee, other a placebo. The tests were conducted at 8am and 5pm.
According to the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, they suggest to consume about 3 mg/kg of caffeine, 30 minutes before engaging in exercises. “The results of our study showed that acute caffeine ingestion 30 minutes before performing an aerobic exercise test increased maximum fat oxidation during exercise regardless of the time of day,” explained Francisco José Amaro-Gahete, one of the study’s authors.
The researchers also pointed out that the effects of caffeine is even more beneficial in the afternoon than in the morning, so try taking your coffee in the second half of the day before your workout to boost fat-burning.
