‘I Cry Every Day’ Britney Spears Seeks To End ‘Abusive’ 13-Year Long Conserv
Many of us grew up with the era of Britney Spears, but not many knew that behind her successful pop star career, lies a traumatic personal life that revolves around a 13-year long abusive conservatorship at the hands of her father and many others who have controlled it.
On Wednesday this week, the 39-year-old singer appeared in court to request the judge to put an end to her court conservatorship that has been controlling her life and money since 2008. “All I want is to own my money and for this to end and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his f***ing car,” Spears said.
Not only does she have no control over her finances, Spears also has no say about what happens to her body. In a painful confession, Spears revealed that she has been longing to remove a contraceptive device in her body so she can get married and have kids, but is unable to do so because “they don’t want me to have children”.

Spears also said that she was forced to take lithium against her will as a punishment after she said no to a dance move during a concert rehearsal. “I’m not here to be anyone’s slave,” she said. “I can say no to a dance move.”
These are just among the many traumatic incidents Spears uncovered in her written speech, which lasted over 20 minutes. “I just want my life back,” she said. “I’m not here to be anyone’s slave. I’m traumatised. I’m not happy, I can’t sleep,” she added. “I’m so angry and I cry every day.”
My heart goes out to Britney, I simply can’t imagine how difficult it must’ve been for her to have endured everything and still have the strength to come forward and reveal her story. Although the case was adjourned without a decision, I really hope the final ruling will grant her what she deserves – #FreeBritney.
