Govt Can Still Declare EMCO At Any Areas With Serious Covid-19 Infections Until Year End

It’s been almost two weeks since the EMCO was lifted in Selangor and selected areas in KL, but given the rising number of cases, it’s clear that our fight against Covid-19 isn’t going to end anytime soon. And neither is the EMCO.

According to a report by The Star on 26 July, Health Minister Datuk Seri Adham Baba has signed an order on 21 July that will allow the government to impose an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in any areas that are facing widespread Covid-19 infections until the end of the year, but this is only if it’s necessary.

The order comes under Section 11 of Act 342, Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) (Extension of Operation) (No. 2) Order 2021. This order will come into operation from 2 August until 31 December 2021.

Under the EMCO, only one person from each household will be allowed to head out, and their movement will be limited within a 10km radius of their homes. All sports, recreational, social, and cultural activities are also prohibited during the period of EMCO.
