Guess what, Facebook is planning to change the name of its company to something different, and yes we don't mean its changing back to "The Facebook" which was what the social media site used to be called when it launched back in 2004.
According to The Verge, its rebrand is likely to separate the company from its many products under the same parent company which includes Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus. This was apparently not a rumour, as the news came from "a source with direct knowledge of the matter".
Mark Zuckerberg was planning to talk about the company name change at the Connect conference on 28 October, and plans to "effectively transition" the company from being a social media company to being "a metaverse company".
“(The metaverse) going to be a big focus, and I think that this is just going to be a big part of the next chapter for the way that the internet evolves after the mobile internet. And I think it’s going to be the next big chapter for our company too, really doubling down in this area,” Zuckerberg said.
Possibly, Facebook might switch the company name to Horizon, as it was the name of an unreleased VR version of Facebook that the company has been developing for the Oculus. The app was also recently tweaked to Horizon Worlds after Facebook demoed Horizon Workrooms which is VR for the workplace.
What do you think is a good name for Facebook to change to?
