Elon Musk Is Considering Indonesia As SpaceX Launch Site

On 11 December, Indonesian President Joko Widodo had a conversation through the phone with Elon Musk to discuss possibilities of having Indonesia become SpaceX’s new rocket launch site. According to Channel News Asia, Indonesia’s National Institute of Aeronautics and Space is working on Indonesia’s first rocket launch site in Biak Island, Papua. The site is said to be ready in 2024 to launch small-sized unmanned space rockets.

Elon Musk tweeted in July about Indonesia’s large volume of nickel production and is already in talks with Indonesia about a possible electric battery partnership.

Nickel is the biggest challenge for high-volume, long-range batteries! Australia & Canada are doing pretty well. US nickel production is objectively very lame. Indonesia 🇮🇩 is great! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 27, 2020
