Butt Acne: Why It Happens And How To Get Rid Of It
If you ask me, butt pimples should be illegal so no one has to suffer from them. But there is a reason why butt acne exists and it’s actually due to clogged hair follicles and bacteria infection, which leads to pus-filled red bumps known as folliculitis.
But don’t worry because there are ways to prevent butt acne and they’re actually pretty easy tips to follow!
1. Washing regularly
This should be self-explanatory because when you wash your butt regularly, you’re getting rid of the dirt, oil, and sweat that are known to clog follicles and cause butt pimples. Generally speaking, you’d want to wash at least twice daily, especially after sweating post-workout, but also make sure that you’re using antibacterial soap to prevent bacterial growth.
2. Avoid harsh exfoliation
While exfoliation is a good way to prevent dead skin cells from clogging your pores, using an abrasive exfoliator like loofah, brushes or scrubs may be too harsh on your skin, especially when it’s already inflamed. Instead, opt for a soft washcloth and gently wash your skin to avoid inflammation and irritation.
3. Wear loose clothing with natural material
This problem is particularly common among gym-goers whose workout clothing can easily absorb sweat and promote bacterial growth. Moreover, workout attires tend to be tight, which could further clog follicles and inflame the irritated area. If you’re struggling with butt acne, it’s recommended that you wear loose clothing with breathable fabric like cotton, hemp or linen.
4. Use the right moisturiser
It’s good to take care of the skin around your butt but do note that there are some moisturisers that are known to clog follicles and worsen the acne. A good product to try is non-greasy moisturisers that contain compounds like lactic acid, which helps to keep your skin moist while getting rid of dead skin cells and preventing folliculitis.
5. Applying warm compress
This method is said to help open the follicles and allowing pus and bacteria to drain away without risk popping the pimples while the warmth can help to soothe the inflamed and irritated skin. Simply soak a washcloth in a bowl of warm water and apply it onto the affected area. Remember to clean the area afterwards to get rid of the dirt on the surface of your skin.
