Another Case Of Human-To-Animal Transmission Recorded As 8 Lions Test Positive For Covid-19
Since studies have shown that it was possible for cats to catch the Covid-19 virus from humans, news about human-to-feline transmission is making headlines again and this time, it’s 8 lions in Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad, India.
The lions first started showing symptoms for the virus on 24 April and after a quick test from the veterinarian team, it was discovered that 8 out of 12 lions at the zoo were experiencing cough, flu, and loss of appetite.
This led to a further investigation and eventually, it was found that all 8 lions had tested positive for Covid-19. All 8 lions have since been housed in separate enclosures to ensure that they are receiving proper medical treatment.
According to India’s Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, the lions are also in recovery now as they begin to show normal behaviour and are eating as usual.
But in the meantime, the zoo will remain closed to visitors to prevent further contact between humans and animals.
