An Annoying New WhatsApp Vulnerability Allows Attackers To Suspend Your Account
Imagine waking up one day, and finding out that you’re no longer able to use WhatsApp. Sounds like a joke right? I’m afraid not. According to Forbes, there is a new WhatsApp vulnerability that allows attackers to suspend your WhatsApp account using your phone number.
As terrifying as it sounds, you won’t need to worry about attackers getting access to your account. All you’ll experience is some pretty annoying WhatsApp verification messages and will temporarily be kicked out of your account, which is pretty troublesome…
So, how does this actually work? The attacker will first install the app on a new device, then enter the wrong 6-digit authentication code till WhatsApp blocks you from logging in. They will then trick WhatsApp support into deactivating your account, so you’ll lose access to your account for a while.
Luckily, WhatsApp is well aware of this situation and is working towards a bug patch that should be rolling out to users soon! That said, keep an eye on random WhatsApp verification messages on your phone!
