Among Us Developers Disappointed At Epic Games’ New Imposter Mode In Fortnite

Updated: Oct 6, 2021

Epic Games just announced a new “Imposter” mode in their popular battle royale game, Fortnite. But doesn’t it sound all too familiar? Innersloth, Among Us’ developers are calling out Epic Games for not being original with their ideas. The popular indie game developers shared a piece of their mind on Twitter, and it sounds like a whole lot of disappointment.

like game mechanics fine, those shouldn't be gatekept, but at the very least even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting? 😕 — Victoria Tran 🧋 (@TheVTran) August 17, 2021

Although it can be argued that Epic Games made enough changes to the Imposter mode that it is sort of different from Among Us, but this wasn’t the first time Epic Games got into legal hot water. That said, Victoria Tran, Among Us’ community director tweeted while the mechanics being similar is fine, Epic Games should have made different themes or terminology to make things more interesting.

Worst part is we've been actively trying to collab with them. — Puff (@PuffballsUnited) August 17, 2021

Sadly, Innersloth was actively trying to collab with Fortnite, so this kind of feels like a backstab. Co-founder of Among Us also expressed his disappointment in a tweet, saying that it isn’t that hard to put 10% more effort to put their own spin on the game mode.

What is your take on this Fortnite Imposter mode?
