After 28 Years, We Bid Farewell To Galeri Petronas In KLCC

This pandemic has taken another thing from us and this time, it is the Galeri Petronas public gallery in Suria KLCC. As of May this year, Galeri Petronas has officially ceased operations as a public gallery.

Despite the gallery’s closure, Petronas assured that the artworks that were on display at the Petronas Art Collection will remain available for loan to relevant programmes and initiatives as an effort to champion Petronas’ commitment to promote greater appreciation of the arts in Malaysia.

Petronas also added that they have assigned new roles for their permanent staff who have been affected by the gallery’s closure.

Since it first opened at the Dayabumi Complex in KL in 1992, Galeri Petronas has been hosting various exhibitions and programmes to promote local talents and preserve the Malaysian contemporary art scene.

And thanks to the public’s support, Galeri Petronas was able to move to a bigger gallery space at its current location in Suria KLCC in 1998. Here, the public gallery even managed to host foreign exhibitions to encourage exchanges between local and foreign artists.
